SYK has a long history of organizing class camping trips for its students. It has been a tradition to organize a trip to somewhere in Finland for the fifth graders, while eighth or ninth graders often make a class camping trip abroad. Organising a class camping trip requires rigorous planning which must be started early. It is the parents’ responsibility to find funds for their child’s class camping trip, and that is why it is the parents who have the final decision about whether or not a class camping trip should be organized. Planning should be started preferably as early as third grade for the fifth grade camping trip and sixth grade for the middle school camping trip. If the parents decide to organize a class camping trip, each member of the parent group for that class must take care of the planning of the funding and briefing together with the class’s teacher. The most popular locations for class camping trips are often reserved a few years beforehand, so reservations should be made on time. Find out more from the “Useful Links about Class Camping” section. The middle school trip that happens in eighth or ninth grade is often made a country where the students can practice their language skills. For example, many trips have been done to France, Germany or a German-speaking country. Trips have also been organized to Sweden, Iceland, Lapland, the Åland islands, and Italy. Parents can also apply for monetary aid from the Parents’ Association.
