Participation by parents in classes form the foundation of the Parents’ Association

The parent teams of each class are the foundation of SYK’s Parents’ Association. The cooperation starts from the third grade and continues at best until the end of high school. The activities of the parent teams are organised by the contact parents (contact-mother and contact-father). Membership of the parent team, as well as the organisation of the parent teams, rotates annually.

Each student’s parents are recruited into a parent team for two school years during the student’s time in comprehensive school. Because of this arrangement, each parent has the responsibility to participate in the parent team activities in their child’s class during at least one year of comprehensive school. Thus nobody will have to be responsible for too long a period of time and new participating parents will be able to bring new ideas with them when the membership of the team rotates.

The members of the parent team choose the contact-mother and contact-father, who will collectively be the contact parents. The e-mail addresses of both the contact-mother and contact-father will be submitted to the secretary of the Parents’ Association. Through the contact parents the board discusses the participation and action taken by the parents in the classes.

The contact parents of all classes meet three times a year in the Parents’ Council, during which the parents discuss general school issues (amongst other things), make motions, and share experiences amongst the parents of different classes and grades.
